Bimini
A legendary island of the
Bahamas, home to
several landmarks said to have mystical properties and/or metaphysical
significance.
What we think of as Bimini is actually two separate islands, North
and South Bimini, separated by a shallow, narrow channel, and are
considered today as the game fishing capital of the world over 50 world
records have been set in their waters. Bimini is located about 50 miles (80
km) east of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and is the closest point in the
Bahamas to the mainland United States.
Amongst the legendary spots alleged to
be
in Bimini, Juan Ponce de Leσn's 'Fountain of Youth',
which gave everlasting life to all who drank from it, is one of the most
celebrated. Facts about de Leσn's search for it are as elusive as the
mythical regenerative spring itself. Some believed it to be in the narrow
ocean passage between the two islands, others assume it within the shallow
pools of South Bimini.
Another notorious site is the Bimini Road, an underwater
J-shaped formation believed to be a man-made road of stone, remnants of the
lost city of
Atlantis, according to American
clairvoyant
Edgar Cayce.
In
Bimini we also have the famed Healing Hole. Located within the salt
water mangrove forest that covers four miles of North Bimini,
this
mineral-laden sulfur-fed spring is said to have physical rejuvenation powers
and curative properties, specially effective against such ailments
as rheumatism and gout.
In an unrelated note, in the 1920s, during the period of
Prohibition in the United States, Bimini was a favorite haven and supply
point for the rum-running trade. The commonly used term 'the Real McCoy' dates from a
famous Rum-runner, William S. McCoy, who used Bimini to transport liquor to
America.

As you may have noticed, Occultopedia is being updated.
Navigation areas are completed, but the word definition pages are not. The
layout in these pages might not look as good as they should. Updating them
may take a while, so please, be patient and understanding. I am only one
person working on this site in my spare time.
As soon as these updates are concluded I will begin setting up the
Forums, so we can all discuss the
occult, paranormal and extraordinary, and whatever else we please.
Registration will be required.
Occultopedia's images and art are also undergoing an adjustment to
Flash based graphics. This process may take some time as well, so again, be
patient and understanding.

Occultopedia is the genuine article, the
original and the best internet index of the extraordinary and uncanny,
shamelessly copied by many, but never equaled. Online since the

with its own domain name and hosting Occultopedia still is the
principal online resource for those looking for the unexplained, the
curious and the unusual. |
